The Battle for Sevastopol
An imperative battle from the Second World War that is overshadowed
At the beginning of the summer of 1942, the Axis troops acted in two directions of offensive, participating in the final assault and the conquest of Sevastopol (the most important Soviet base in the Black Sea) and in triggering the offensive towards the Caucasus. Following the victory in Kharkiv, the South German Army Group was given the task of rapidly advancing to the Caucasus oil region.
In the first phase of the attack, the 6th Romanian Army Corps also participated, comprising 4 infantry divisions. On June 22, the Romanian units forced Donets, succeeding to quickly enter the enemy device. Throughout July, the 6th Corps was in pursuit of the enemy. The donation was reached on July 27, and throughout this period the Romanian troops acted in torrid heat, performing daily marches of 25–30 km.
