Phryne Was Saved From Death by Her Sexy Body
Even politicians from Ancient Greece had their weaknesses
Most people see the political system in Ancient Greece as very brutal and serious as the rules were maintained by the blade. Breaking the rules imposed by this regime usually ended up with a capital sentence. Even with democracy as the most prominent governing system, made mostly by male citizens, it saw its fair share of corruption.
The act of trying to break the rules set by the elders was seen as corruption and it came in many forms but the most well-known were presented as riches or simply sex.
Who was Phryne?
Phryne was a courtesan born in 371 BC and she is famous due to her trial for impiety where she was defended by the orator Hypereides as well as mother nature to some extent. Impiety in Ancient Greece referred to the lack of respect for sacred things.
Her real name was actually Mnesarete which is a Greek word referring to the commemoration of virtue. Phryne was a nickname given in childhood that translates to “toad.” This nickname was given to her due to her yellowish skin complexion. However, this nickname was also given to courtesans and prostitutes.
