I do agree with your point at some extent but the thing is that other prehistoric events that have endangered humanity were from natural causes, things that we could not control such like the example you give of the Ice Age. I believe that the example presented in this research can be controlled and it will most likely all come down to the ability of adapting to whatever may come.
